Schaumburg businessman honors mother with oil change benefit

Lifelong Schaumburg resident Dan Origer will hold his 10th annual - and final - oil change benefit for the American Cancer Society in honor of his late mother next week at his business, DJs Auto Service, 495 Estes Ave. in Schaumburg.

Origer started the event a year after the death of his mother, Carole Ann Origer, to try to make a modest difference in the fight against cancer, as well as to honor a woman who faced it bravely and made a big difference in his life.

During the benefit, which runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 100 percent of all proceeds from oil changes will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Oil changes will be $25 for regular oil, $50 for synthetic, and $100 for diesel.

Raffle tickets also will be sold for $2 each or three for $5, and NAPA Auto Parts will provide food.

Origer said he decided to make this year's benefit the last as it's been harder to find vendors who knew his mother to help with the event.

Carole Ann Origer worked for her son's business for 11 years, until just before her death. Originally diagnosed with lung cancer, the disease eventually spread to her brain, her son said. She passed away on March 26, 2005.
