St. Alphonsus students achieve success at regional science fair

Fifteen students from Saint Alphonsus Liguori School in Prospect Heights received awards at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science Regional Science Fair at Niles North High School on Saturday, March 7.

Ten of the 15 students received either gold or silver awards.

Seventh-grade student, Will Stiefbold, a gold award recipient, qualified for the IJAS State Science Fair this May in Carbonale, Illinois. Stiefbold's project, "Solar Furnace," also drew special recognition by the Optical Society of Chicago. The society awarded Stiefbold with a cash prize for "the best project in optics or optics related technology."

Science teacher Glen Crosswhite and Principal Fred Muehleman congratulate the following students for their participation and success in the science fair: Gold Award winners: Will Stiefbold, Dominic Capellani and Joey Smith; Silver Award winners: Lucas Mattson, Sean Pineda, Michelle Cecchin, Torry Davia, Alyssa Moreno, Emily Yacu and Brigitte Cueter; Bronze Award winners: Jimmy Bilhorn, Gina Tolan, Laura Yacu, Maddie Peric and Nicolina O' Sullivan.
