Morton helps Elk Grove past Lake Park
Elk Grove sophomore Sabra Morton kept her record perfect at 4-0 by tossing a 7-hitter in Monday's 5-1 softball triumph at Lake Park.
Morton struck out five and walked two while junior Sarah Pauscher helped lead the offense by going 3-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI.
Other multiple hitters for the Grens (5-2) were junior Alex Masnica (2-for-4, double) and Haley Itzenthaler (2-for-4, double). Aleece Duffy and Tayler Merkel also doubled for the Grens.
Fremd 18, Resurrection 3 (5 inn.): Holly Straup and Addison Stremel each had homers and Reagan Schneider connected for a pair of doubles for visiting Fremd (6-0).
Multiple hitters for the Vikes were Abby Iuorio (2-for-3, 2 runs, walk), Schneider (2-for-3, 4 RBI, 2 runs, walk), Jessica Mazur (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Stremel (2-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBI) and Katie Niersbach (2-for-4, 2 runs).
Hailey Goodwin (2-0) notched the win with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Huntley 3, Barrington 1: Visiting Huntley (3-2) edged state-ranked Barrington (8-2) as sophomore Kateri Conklin got two strikeouts and a popout to the catcher after Barrington had runners on first and second with no outs and trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
Junior Kelly Katis (2-for-2) led off the seventh with a home run.
Senior Keenan Dolezal (7-2) struck out 13 while tossing a 3-hitter.
Downers Grove South 8, Hoffman Estates 3: Freshman Giselle Velazquez had a double for the host Hawks (4-3) in the nonconference game against the state's top-ranked team.
