Police investigating McHenry County crash that injured 2 drivers

McHenry County Sheriff's police said they are investigating a crash that involved a teenage driver and an adult.

Authorities said the crash between a 17-year-old Wauconda boy and a 37-year-old man from Harvard occurred about 3:35 p.m. Sunday at Dunham and Menge roads in unincorporated Hartland Township. Police said the man was treated for injuries and released from Centegra Hospital-Woodstock, while the boy was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital and later released.

The boy was driving a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 west on Dunham Road when he collided with a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by the man, according to a preliminary investigation. Police said the 37-year-old man was traveling north on Menge Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection before the crash.

Police said the front end of the boy's Chevrolet hit the right side of the man's van, causing both vehicles to exit the roadway to the northwest. The van hit several trees and rolled onto its right side.

No traffic tickets had been issued as of Monday. The crash was being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff's traffic crash investigations unit.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to police. An air bag deployed in the boy's vehicle, but not the man's van.

Members of the Harvard Fire Protection District and other agencies assisted sheriff's police at the scene.
