Bill helps fight Medicare fraud

Healthcare and the cost of healthcare are two of the most important concerns we have in America today. If the dollars we spend on healthcare are susceptible to fraud and corruption we must be vigilant and correct the system.

It is estimated that Medicare fraud costs seniors an unbelievable $60 billion every year, which ultimately increases their costs. We in Illinois are fortunate to have Congressman Peter Roskam, who has joined Congressman John Carney from Delaware in pushing for a Medicare fraud package which includes their bipartisan Preventing and Reducing Improper Medicare and Medicaid Expenditures Act of 2015.

Among other things, the Act phases out the antiquated "pay and chase" system that pays out even suspicious Medicare claims and expands a program requiring Medicare officials to inform seniors and Medicaid beneficiaries of the fight against waste and fraud.

These examples and others contained in the legislation will help to ensure the safety of our healthcare system into the future. For more information on this bill and others please go to https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/818. Thank you, Congressman Roskam. Seize the Day,
