Stations of the Cross walk draw thousands in Aurora

Thousands flocked to the streets during a Stations of the Cross walk between Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Nicholas Catholic Church on Good Friday in Aurora.

Stations were located short distances from each other where a different set of actors and actresses would step in to portray Jesus, Mary and other biblical figures. Some actors were new to the event this year, while others - such as Fernando Garcia of Aurora, who marked his sixth year acting in the holy walk - have been participating for several years.

Crowds spilled from the streets onto the sidewalks and front lawns of homes along the route of the procession. Anell Xotla, 5, of Batavia rode on her father Jose's shoulders to get a better view while brother Kevin, 11, walked along.

The Stations of the Cross are a primarily Catholic devotional practice that commemorates the death of Jesus Christ. There are 14 stations, each one standing for an event that occurred before Jesus' death.
