Morgan is the best choice for city clerk

At the last municipal election, residents in Prospect Heights overwhelmingly voted to keep the office of city clerk and treasurer as elected, as opposed to appointed positions. Now that we've preserved the positions, it is imperative that we identify the best candidates to fill them. In particular, the clerk's office.

Given the city's history - an unsolved City Hall arson fire, a backdoor referendum to fund an ill-conceived arena project, and the push to impose a municipal water system using fraudulent data and an outdated voter/property owner register - status quo in the clerk's office just won't do.

Residents need timely and up-to-date information via the most expedient, yet feasible, means. We don't want to fall back into the information trap prelude to those recent history disasters.

Accuracy, immediacy and independence are the hallmarks of a "stellar" clerk. Both candidates for clerk, incumbent Stacey Adamson and newcomer Wendy Morgan show varying strengths in these qualities.

I was the current Mayor Helmer's opposition at the election four years ago. However, both Helmer and I agree that Morgan is the better choice for our city.

Morgan is an independent thinker. As an attorney, she understands the importance of transcribing the spoken word to reflect the intentions of its author. She pledges to not burden staff with her official duties.

I believe her.

I urge those that strive for honest, fair, and frugal government to cast their vote for Wendy Morgan this coming Tuesday.
