West Chicago man gets 10 years for abusing girl in his care

A West Chicago man has been sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in federal prison after sexually abusing a girl in his care for four years, authorities said Wednesday.

Nicacio Jaimes-Moreno, 52, pleaded guilty in October 2014 to one count of knowingly transporting a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

According to federal court documents, Jaimes-Moreno began sexually abusing the girl when she was 11. The abuse continued for four years in various places throughout Mexico, Oklahoma, Indiana and Illinois, where the two lived with the victim's mother.

Officials say the victim was not allowed to attend school and was only allowed outside when accompanied by Jaimes-Moreno. The victim also was forbidden by Jaimes-Moreno to tell anyone she was being assaulted.

A victim impact statement read to the judge during the sentencing hearing on Monday described what Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Ebert said was "lasting and immeasurable harm" to the victim.

"Further compounding the trauma inflicted by the defendant, he was a parental figure to the victim, and she was very much in defendant's custody, care and supervisory control throughout the time (the) defendant was sexually assaulting her," Ebert said.

Jaimes-Moreno has been in federal custody since charges were filed in August 2013. He must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.

The judge also ordered Jaimes-Moreno to three years of supervised court supervision upon his release, but he is subject to deportation because he is not a U.S. citizen.
