Police: Elgin man swallowed heroin during arrest

An Elgin man is expected in bond court Thursday morning on numerous drug charges stemming from a search of his home, police said.

Police on Monday executed a search warrant at the home of Angelo Hopson, 32, of the 800 block of Seminole Drive, following a four-month investigation after police say Hopson delivered heroin to undercover officers.

He was arrested with more heroin and also swallowed heroin in an attempt to destroy evidence, police said. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and was released Wednesday, when he was then taken to the Elgin Police Department.

Hopson was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church; five counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and obstructing justice.

He's expected in a Rolling Meadows courtroom Thursday morning.
