Road conditions were deplorable

Someone needs to find out who is responsible for the deplorable, unacceptable conditions on Route 53 northbound and southbound after the overnight snow this week.

With ample notice of low temperatures and snow, the road conditions were the worst I've ever seen on anything but the most remote back roads.

At 10 miles per hour, you were still unable to touch either the brake or the gas pedal without skidding. It started early in the morning according to the traffic updates on all manner of media and conditions only seemed to get worse as the morning progressed.

Vehicles were skidding and crashing all over the place and the only flashing lights in sight were those of the wreckers removing the vehicles of the unfortunate and the poor police who were trying their best to help the occupants to safety.

I've been driving over four decades now and I've never seen a major road left to the elements like this one. No salt trucks in Chicagoland in March? Did they run out of salt? Were they not aware of the impending weather conditions?

Or did they all just decide it was spring and forgot their responsibility to the taxpaying public?

Someone has to be held accountable.
