Vote for candidates who monitor spending

As someone who ran for Wheaton-Warrenville, CUSD 200 in 2013, people keep asking me, "Who should I vote for?"

I ran to represent taxpayers who were tired of being told to sit down and open their wallets. I spoke out against the failed Jefferson early childhood center referendum and other spending issues.

District 200 doesn't have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem.

This year I recommend re-electing Jim Gambaiani and electing Gary Tonn to bring fiscal sanity back to the district.

Currently Jim Gambaiani (elected in 2011) and Jim Matheison (elected in 2013) are the only two who ever vote against the administration's recommendations.

Jim Gambaiani consistently opposed the tax-to-the-max. He opposed Dr. Harris' new five-year contract with its $25,000 base salary increase and the waiver of Dr. Harris' $40,000 get-out-of-contract-early obligation.

Gambaiani opposed placing the failed Jefferson referendum on the ballot and the Engage 200 initiative. True community engagement could have been done for a lot less than the $85,000 spent to get the "desired outcome."

Gary Tonn believes in academic progress based on fiscal responsibility. He is promoting the 3 T's of effective school board leadership - Transparency, Truth and Trust.

Also, since last August, I have been attending COD board meetings. I have talked to most of the 12 COD board candidates. This January, we witnessed the COD board vote (six to one) to give COD's president, Dr. Breuder, a $762,868 severance package when he voluntarily retires in March 2016. Trustee Kathy Hamilton was the lone vote against this golden parachute. I am backing the same candidates as Trustee Hamilton. Please vote for those on the ballot at positions 6, 7 and 8 - the "clean slate" - Charles Bernstein, Frank Napolitano and Deanne Mazzochi.
