COD should not need PR firm

The College of DuPage board is currently under public scrutiny regarding its decision to provide a $762,800 severance package to President Breuder and ignore $160,000-plus lunch and dinner tabs for Breuder and board members at the expensive Waterleaf campus restaurant.

Board Chairman Erin Brit recently said "I think it is clear that there is a need for a PR firm to help the public understand what the true facts are." In my opinion, it is the job and responsibility of elected board members to uphold and support the values of integrity, honesty, respect and responsibility prominently displayed on the College of DuPage website and to clearly explain to the public, who elected them, what the true facts are.

Board lawyers or an outside public relations firm are not responsible for decisions of the board or explaining those decisions to the public. Hopefully, the three board members up for re-election will be replaced. Since the existing board according to Chairman Brit is not able to help the public understand the true facts, then it may be time for those whose terms are not up to resign in order to preserve and enhance the College of DuPage values.
