Palatine Jaycees seek artists for 11th juried art fair

The Palatine Jaycees are taking artist applications for its 11th annual juried art fair, "An Art Affair Around the Square," being held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13, at Towne Square, corner of Smith Street and Palatine Road, in downtown Palatine.

Artists of all ages and specialties are encouraged to apply, including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pottery, fine jewelry, stained glass and pastels to name a few. Applications can be found at artaffairpalatine.com or request one by email at jayceeartfair@yahoo.com.

"We are encouraged by the diversity of artists who participated in the past and we want to continually bring new talent to the show," said show chairman Audrey Doty. "This quality, juried art show is a celebration of all forms of art, from the traditional to the contemporary. Besides a wide range of art for purchase, the weekend show includes a raffle, interactive activities and live entertainment by local musicians."

"An Art Affair Around the Square has a well-deserved reputation among artists as an artist-friendly show. We treat our artists to a light breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday morning and watch the booths if someone needs to run an errand or go to lunch. We also provide overnight security to ensure the safekeeping of their artwork," Doty continued.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of the nearly 60 local chapters throughout Illinois, has nearly 100 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals age 21 to 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community. In Palatine, the Jaycees conduct approximately 60 projects per year including Christmas tree sales and the annual Hometown Fest Fourth of July celebration.

The Palatine Chapter holds its monthly general meeting 7:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, at the American Legion Hall on Palatine Road, in Palatine.
