Scorched Earth Brewing in Algonquin to add beer garden

Just in time for summer when people like to get outside, Scorched Earth Brewing in Algonquin plans to open a beer garden.

Founder Mike Dallas said he hopes to have seating for up to 50 people by sometime in June with a hops farm theme. Plans are still in development with the architect. It will have a wall, a railing, some trees and a sound system. There will also be room to play bags.

Russell Farnum, community development director of Algonquin, said it would have a "modern, rustic microbrewery feel."

The village committee approved the initial proposal Tuesday night. Dallas, who co-founded the brewery with his wife, Jennifer, will have to come before the board again once the design is finalized.

"I'm very excited. The village has been very supportive," Dallas said. "Outside in the beer garden, I want people to feel like they were immersed in a hops farm."

Located at 203 Berg St., Scorched Earth opened in August 2014.
