Dist. 158 superintendent to present 'The What If's of History'

On Tuesday, April 7, the Huntley Historical Society will welcome John Burkey, Huntley Unit District 158 Superintendent, as their featured speaker. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Willow Room at the Cosman Center, 12015 Mill St. in Huntley.

One of the most fascinating aspects of studying history is the examination of how events might have changed had one event happened differently. These are the "what ifs" of history. For example, what if Abraham Lincoln had not been assassinated in 1865? How might Reconstruction have played out differently? How might race relations over the next 150 years have been different. Would we still even be one country today?

For Burkey's presentation, he is going to take a much more modern event -- one that happened on one single day in the 1980s. On the surface this event might seem inconsequential today; yet, he will trace and discuss how subsequent events, and our lives today, might be radically different had this one event occurred differently. This event will remain a mystery until the presentation which will be interactive with audience discussion and participation.

Everyone (including students) is invited to attend this interesting program which is free and open to the public. For details, call Ronda at (224) 654-2070.
