Rotary Club of Gurnee, Six Flags Great America team up to host 'Devil Dash'

The Rotary Club of Gurnee is teaming up with Six Flags Great America to sponsor a 5K fun run through Six Flags this spring.

This premiere event will feature a race in a new setting for Chicago-area runners. Participants will actually run the race through Six Flags and have an opportunity to ride the Raging Bull Speed Coaster during the race.

Once the event is over, all participants will be able to enjoy the rides and the sites and scenes of Six Flags Great America.

"The Devil Dash" will be Sunday, May 3. It is named after Warren Township High School's mascot, the Blue Devil. Proceeds from the event will be benefit the school's scholarship and leadership programs.

Pre-race registration will begin at 7 a.m. and the race will start at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $50 for runners who register by April 28. Great America Season Pass-holders will pay a discounted registration fee of $25 by April 28.

On the day of the race, the registration fee is $60 for race participants and $35 for Great America Season Pass-holders. The fee for children younger than 10 years old and all 1-mile runners is $20. All tickets include admission to the park and free parking.

Registration can be made at the Gurnee Rotary Club website, www.gurneerotary.com.

Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers and there will also be medals for all race finishers and awards for top age group finishers.

The first-place prize will have a $1,000 value, while the second-place prize will have a $500 value and third-place prize will have a $250 value.

Each participant will receive a souvenir T-shirt and swag bag. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day and there will be post race food and beverages available. Also, post race showers will be available for the runners.
