Barrington Natives Write Book About Growing Up in Barrington

Ron and Dave Dockery have written a wonderful book about looking back on their childhoods growing up in Barrington. If you remember what it was like to not have to lock your door, when kids played outside all day safely until dark, and your neighbors could be trusted to watch your house when you were away, then this book is for you.

Ron grew up in the 1940's and 1950's and he writes about his favorite bicycle, when World War II ended, traveling to Chicago which took over two hours, and much more. His son, Dave, explains what it was like growing up in the 1970's and 1980's when he played "knothole" baseball, kick the can, atari video games, and the wonderful downtown with independently owned stores and restaurants.

The book is a whimsical look back at a time before cell phones, computers and Playstations, complete with song lyrics and events of the 20th Century.

"I still get a little choked up thinking about what my dad would have thought about all this," says Dave Dockery, "I just hope that I did him and the town justice."

The book is available right now in e-book format on Amazon and Smashwords (links below), but David is working hard to complete a paperback copy complete with photos as requested by many on Facebook. He hopes to be finished with that by the end of April or sooner.
