Two plead guilty to unloading marijuana at Elk Grove warehouse

Two men caught unloading 1,700 pounds of marijuana hidden in soup crackers at an Elk Grove Village warehouse pleaded guilty and were sentenced to four years in prison.

Adam Flores-Ibarra, 26, of Elk Grove Village, and Saul Macias, 23, of Deer Park, Texas, pleaded guilty Thursday to amended charges of attempted marijuana possession. Each man received credit for 137 days in custody and each was ordered to pay $2,794 in fines, according to court records.

Investigators from the Illinois State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration were preparing to execute a search warrant at a warehouse in the 1100 block of Howard Street on Oct. 27, 2014, when they noticed the men unloading pallets from a truck, prosecutors said. Drugs found in the pallets of soup crackers had an estimated street value of $1.4 million, prosecutors said.

Flores-Ibarra and Macias must complete at least 50 percent of their sentence before they are eligible for parole.
