Comptroller talks state finances to business community

Illinois Comptroller Leslie Munger spoke to members of the Schaumburg Business Association on Tuesday about the task of managing the state's finances through tough times such as these.

"We are massively in debt," Munger during the SBA's monthly breakfast meeting. "We try to correct that my managing things crisis to crisis, but we all know that crises just don't go away. Problems just don't go away until you solve them."

Munger, a Republican from Lincolnshire who was appointed comptroller following the death of Judy Baar Topinka in December, detailed how the state in previous years has had to borrow money and take money out of other accounts to make up for underfunding of its general fund.
