Hugo Robles named police officer of the year in Lindenhurst

Lindenhurst police Officer Hugo Robles has been named the department's 2014 Police Officer of the Year.

Police annually recognize an officer who has performed above and beyond the regular call of duty. Command staff reviews each officer's performance and efforts to select a recipient.

An 11-year veteran of the force, Robles currently serves as an Officer in Charge and has taken an active role in the village's safety and wellness initiatives and is the lead member of the village's Bicycle Patrol Unit.

Moreover, Robles is responsible for facilitating the community bicycle safety program, which is a partnership with the local business community. This program recognizes and rewards bicycle safety for the youth in our community, while providing bicycles and helmets to deserving children.

Also, Robles functions as a translator for neighboring police departments.

"Through his encouraging, constructive and professional nature, Officer Robles represents the department and the village of Lindenhurst in a positive manner," Mayor Susan Lahr said.
