Party animals Puppies can learn manners during Animal Hospital of Lake Villa's monthly events

Animal Hospital of Lake Villa believes in doing what is absolutely best for their clients and patients.

Dr. Edward McGinniss, owner of the practice, stays on top of new ideas and suggestions to help pet owners. One such idea presented to him to host "puppy parties" for any pups between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks.

Most people tend to fear taking their unvaccinated puppy somewhere to socialize, and so the dog ends up having no idea how to behave around other people or canines.

There's always the fear of the animal getting hurt, so having a pair of trained eyes supervising the party helps ease this fear.

Puppy parties are geared toward this age group because it is the perfect time for learning and early socialization. It's a great building block to help puppies grow into well-adjusted adult dogs. The parties also help puppies get adjusted to car rides and vet visits.

The hospital implemented the first party Feb. 11 with some help from Shag Bark Pet Spa and Retreat. Cathy, the overhead trainer at ShagBark, gave a presentation about the basics of puppy training, and visitors were able to ask questions about training.

At each party, the hospital will strive to teach clients some basic training, grooming, and general guidelines to raise a puppy.

Puppy parties will continue from 6:30-7:30 p.m. every other Wednesday at Animal Hospital of Lake Villa, 101 S. Milwaukee Ave., Lake Villa. The next party is scheduled for March 11.
