Two charged with robbing Batavia gas station

Two people charged with robbing a gasoline station in Warrenville Monday now face charges they did the same thing in Batavia Tuesday.

Jason A.J. DeVincent, 29, of the 500 block of Stewart Street, Batavia, and Amanda A. Hicks, 28, of the 0-99 block of Brendon Court, Roselle, were charged with aggravated armed robbery, Batavia police said.

According to a news release, two people robbed a clerk at the Shell station at 164 S. Randall Road at 1 a.m. Tuesday. The clerk told police a man entered the station's store, showed a handgun and stole cash and three cartons of cigarettes. The suspect left in a car driven by a woman, the clerk said.

The description of the man, the woman and the car was similar to that given in the Warrenville robbery, Batavia police said.

According to Kane County court records, $190 was taken.

DeVincent and Hicks were arrested around 3 p.m. Tuesday in a hotel room in Elk Grove Village. They told police the handgun was a pellet gun, according to Batavia police.

Bail has been set at $100,000 apiece on the Batavia charges. The two were in the DuPage County jail, where DeVincent was being held on $250,000 bail, and Hicks was being held on $150,000 bail. However, the Illinois Department of Corrections has placed a hold on her, according to the jail's inmate registry.

Hicks is on parole for a 2012 burglary in DuPage County, according to the corrections department. She was also convicted on a 2004 charge of possession of a controlled substance in DuPage County, according to the corrections department.
