No injuries in Wheaton blaze

No injuries were reported in a house fire on the 100 block of West Madison Street in Wheaton, authorities said.

Firefighters were called to a basement fire of a house at 12:52 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. When they arrived, the fire had extended to the first floor.

Everyone inside has escaped safely before firefighters arrived at the scene, authorities said. The blaze was under control within 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, authorities said.

Damages estimates were unavailable early Wednesday, but authorities said the building sustained heavy smoke and water damage.

The building has been deemed uninhabitable by the city's building department.
