Wheaton College student accused of recording woman in shower

A Wheaton College student is accused of secretly making videos of a female student while she showered in a college-owned apartment, officials said Tuesday.

Wheaton resident Alexander Lim, 24, has been charged with one count of unauthorized video recording, a class 4 felony, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

A female student at the college was taking a shower on Feb. 22 when she saw what she thought was a watch with a video lens facing toward her, the release said. She contacted campus police, who then notified the Wheaton Police Department, according to the news release.

An investigation revealed the watch was a "spyview camera watch," and officials said they believe Lim put the watch in the bathroom and had been recording the woman showering since October, according to the news release.

"The actions that Mr. Lim is accused of would be a violation of College policies and the Community Covenant we agree to live by," Wheaton College Vice President for Student Development Paul Chelsen said in the news release. "We are eager to comply with the authorities investigating this matter, and will provide ongoing care to everyone affected by this situation."

Lim's bond was set Tuesday at $75,000. He is scheduled to appear in court March 23.
