Speed likely a factor in fatal Elgin crash

Elgin police say speed was likely a factor in a crash early Saturday morning that killed two men.

Just after midnight Saturday, Elgin police were called to a single-vehicle crash on the 1100 block of Forest Drive. The vehicle, a 2010 Acura TL, was carrying three people and heading west on Forest Drive when it left the road and struck a tree, police said in a news release.

All three people were taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital, where two were later pronounced dead. Killed in the crash were Jordan H. Ross, 31, of Elgin and Nicholas W. Garza of Sycamore. A third person was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge with serious injuries.

Autopsies were conducted by the Kane County coroner, and the results are still pending, police say. Anyone with information should call (847) 289-2661.
