Two dead in one vehicle crash in Elgin

Two people died when their vehicle left the road and hit a tree early today in Elgin.

Shortly after midnight, Elgin Police and Fire Departments responded to the 1100 block of Forest Drive.

The preliminary investigation found that a vehicle with three occupants was traveling west on Forest Drive and left the roadway, striking a tree, police said in a news release. The force of the impact required fire department personnel to extricate two of the three occupants, police said.

All three were transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital where two of the occupants were later pronounced dead. The third occupant is being treated for serious injuries.

Authorities are withholding identities pending notification to relatives, police said.

The Kane County Coroner will conduct autopsies to determine the cause of death.

Forest Drive was closed for hours while the Elgin Police Department Traffic Unit investigated the crash.
