Fox Lake hosts Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Sunday

Brave swimmers will leap into the chilly waters of Fox Lake on Sunday to help raise money to support Special Olympics athletes.

The 2015 Polar Plunge will take place at 1 p.m. at Lake Front Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd.

The funds raised benefit Special Olympics Illinois Northeastern/Area 13, which serves athletes with intellectual disabilities in Lake and McHenry Counties. All polar plungers are required to collect a minimum of $75 in donations.

Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. Lunch is free for plungers and $5 for others. Plunge souvenirs to be sold include stocking caps, scarves and photo frames. Participants receive an official Polar Plunge sweatshirt and there are incentives for raising more money.

To register or to create a fundraising webpage, visit www.plungeillinois.com or call (224) 377-8378. Last-minute participants can register on site Sunday.
