Downstate man arrested on drug charge in Palatine

Palatine police arrested a 30-year-old downstate man on a felony drug charge Saturday after authorities said they found heroin, cocaine and marijuana in his pickup truck during a traffic stop.

Bryce C. Ross of Danville was charged with possession of a controlled substance as a result of the traffic stop, which took place about 9:45 p.m. Saturday when he was pulled over in the 1400 block of East Dundee Road for driving a Ford F-150 with only one functioning headlight, police said.

After the traffic stop, police said, an officer and canine partner searched Ross' vehicle and found 45 grams of heroin, 1.7 grams of cocaine and 5 grams of cannabis. A check of Ross' driver's license status revealed that his driving privileges were revoked, and he was wanted on a $5,000 Vermillion County warrant for failing to appear in court on a battery charge, police said.

Ross was taken to the Cook County courthouse in Maywood for a weekend/holiday bond hearing, the results of which were not immediately available Monday.
