Elgin man accused of making threats with gun

An Elgin man who police say used a gun to confront someone over a noise complaint is expected to appear before a judge Tuesday morning on drugs and weapons charges.

Police responded to a call bout 1:30 p.m. Sunday regarding a man with a handgun on the 1000 block of Ash Drive. The victim told police that Paul Sandoval, 21, confronted him about a noise complaint and pointed a gun at him while making threats, Elgin police said in a news release.

Sandoval then went back to his home and refused to open the door for responding officers, police said. Police evacuated adjacent buildings while members of the Tactical Response Team attempted to negotiate with Sandoval.

After several hours, a woman and small child were released from the apartment. Officers obtained a search warrant, entered the apartment and arrested Sandoval without incident, police said.

Sandoval was charged with possession of a firearm by a street gang member; unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver; and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's expected in a Rolling Meadows bond court Tuesday morning.
