Sculptors get ready for 'Love and Lincoln' in East Dundee

East Dundee is gearing up for its "Love and Lincoln" event Saturday, which recognizes Valentine's Day as well as Abraham Lincoln's Birthday.

Snow sculptors Fran Volz and Mark Mayzik Wednesday began work on a 10-foot bust of Lincoln, and it was gradually taking shape and was recognizable as the former president by Thursday. The two sculptors added numerous details to the frozen head by Friday while battling the dropping temperatures which didn't seem to affect Lincoln at all.

The end result will be unveiled at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at The Depot, 319 N. River St.

Volz, of Rochelle, is founder of the International Snow Sculpting Competitions and has participated in numerous snow sculpting competitions and events throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

Mayzik, of Wisconsin, has worked with Volz on several snow creations for other events as well.
