Bridge reconstruction ready to resume in Aurora

As part of Aurora's aggressive bridge reconstruction program to modernize the city's infrastructure and improve safety, construction will resume Feb. 23 on the Indian Trail bridges.

The completion of the reconstruction project will necessitate closing the bridges to traffic beginning Monday, March 2. Traffic will be detoured to the Illinois Avenue and Sullivan Road Bridges, and message boards will alert drivers to the impending closure.

The entire reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed by November.

The Indian Trail bridges, the longest crossings over the Fox River in Aurora, closed in June 2014 for the $9.8 million reconstruction project.

In addition to the replacement and widening of both the east and west crossings, the project also will include improved drainage along with new curbs, gutters, wider sidewalks, parapet railings, LED street lighting, guard rails, and landscaping.

The project is 80 percent federally funded, with the remaining 20 percent paid through city funds obtained from Motor Fuel Taxes.
