Carol Stream names new police chief

Deputy Chief Ed Sailer has been named Carol Stream's new police chief.

Sailer, who has served as acting chief for several months, will succeed Kevin Orr, who retired last summer.

The starting salary for the position is $134,544.42.

Sailer started in Carol Stream law enforcement as a patrol officer in 1986. Ten years later, he was assigned to be a detective in the investigations unit, according to a village news release.

Sailer became a sergeant in 2001, spending the next six years overseeing the investigations unit and administrative support. In 2010, he was promoted to lieutenant and became the deputy chief in charge of the patrol and support services divisions a year later, according to a news release.

Village Manager Joseph Breinig said Sailer was the most qualified candidate and has done a good job as acting chief.

Sailer will be sworn in as chief on Feb. 17. He will be the department's 10th chief.
