Three more measles cases confirmed in Cook County

Three more people in suburban Cook County have contracted measles, health officials said yesterday, bringing the suburban total to eight. Of those, seven cases are linked to KinderCare Learning Center in Palatine. Health officials expect more because as many as 15 unvaccinated infants were exposed at the center. Full story.

Roselle home badly damaged by fire

A Roselle family's home was extensively damaged by a fire yesterday morning but no injuries were reported, fire officials said. Firefighters responded to the single-family, two-story home on the 500 block of Newcastle Drive at about 11:30 a.m., Battalion Chief Ted Matuszewski said. Full story.

Drew Peterson charged with plotting to kill prosecutor

Former Bolingbrook police officer Drew Peterson, who was convicted of killing his third wife, has been charged with trying to orchestrate a hit on the prosecutor who tried the case that put him in state prison. Peterson has been in prison since 2012 when he was convicted of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio. His fourth wife disappeared in 2007 and has never been found. Full story.

Rauner's executive order takes aim at unions

Gov. Bruce Rauner yesterday signed an executive order that says state workers don't have to pay fees to support union bargaining if they're not in the union. Rauner's order says that workers don't have to pay "fair-share" dues, a cost to support union bargaining paid by workers who don't want to be in the union. Rauner says that includes about 6,500 people in state government. Full story.

Rauner's action could delay Huntley train station project

Gov. Bruce Rauner's order to freeze all major state construction projects pending review could delay construction on Huntley's downtown train station for Amtrak service. The $223 million plan to resume Amtrak passenger rail service from Chicago to Rockford was expected to be operating from Huntley's downtown by December. Full story.
