Sheila Simon to visit event in Round Lake Beach

Former Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon will appear at the Lake County Rising event Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, off Hook Drive west of Route 83 in Round Lake Beach. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. Simon is a lawyer, teacher, advocate against domestic abuse and mother of two daughters, and she has a lifetime of public service. Simon will play the banjo to lead women empowerment songs. A resource fair, keynote speech by Dr. Ozella Barnes of A Safe Place, and appearances by Lake County State's Attorney Mike Nerheim, State Sen. Melinda Bush, YWCA Executive Director Janice Bennett and the students of Zion Central Middle School performing Break The Chain, also will be featured.
