Fire causes $200,000 damage to Hoffman Estates home

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that caused an estimated $200,000 damage to a home and its contents Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters called at 12:15 p.m. to the residence in the 4000 block of O'Hare Drive found smoke showing from the front of the two-story structure, officials said. The main body of the fire was in the lower level of the home and brought under control quickly, according to the fire department.

But because the fire was inside a common wall that extended to the attic, there was extensive smoke damage throughout the house, authorities said.

No residents were inside the house when firefighters arrived, but two family pets were rescued. There were no injuries reported.

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department responded with 22 firefighters, and also had on-scene assistance from the Palatine, Palatine Rural, Schaumburg and Barrington Countryside departments. Mutual aid companies from the Elk Grove, Barrington, Hanover Park and Elgin fire departments provided station coverage.

The home was found to not have working smoke detectors in place due to ongoing home improvements. The home was not equipped with a sprinkler system, officials said.
