Palatine High School student shaves head for a good cause

Michael Weiss, a junior at Palatine High School, will be performing the lead role in "Annie" the musical February 4th-7th as Daddy Warbucks. For those of you who don't know about "Annie" is the uplifting story of an optimistic orphan girl living under the care of the cruel Ms. Hannigan. Her life takes a turn for the better when she is selected to stay with Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks, a wealthy businessman who eventually learns to love her as a father. Trouble ensues when Ms. Hannigan develops a plot to recover Annie and the generous reward which will be given to her birth parents if they reveal themselves. Proven as an exciting story, the original 1977 Broadway show lasted almost six years. With this role Michael was going to need to shave his head. So Michael decided to make lemonade out of lemons and had a virtual St. Baldricks fundraising event. He took online donations at

stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/742489/2015 and sold $2 raffle tickets to friends and students to have the opportunity to do the actual shaving.

On Monday, January 26th after school in the auditiorium Senior Logan Beck shaved one side and his sister Amanda Weiss shaved the other.

Michael Weiss hopes to have a large audience and says, "People should come see 'Annie' because it has a wide variety of happy, sad, and funny moments. It's nothing compared to the typical musical you'd go see at a high school."

Tickets are still available so come out and see Annie. February 4th-7th 7pm. Adult $ Student $7.

With the sublime direction of Ms. Kligner, Ms. Larkin, and Mr. Sivak and the dedication of the cast and crew, "Annie" is bound to make you smile.
