Electrical problem suspected in Batavia fire

An electrical fire damaged a townhouse in Batavia Wednesday, according to fire officials.

The fire department was called by a neighbor at 6:06 a.m. to a home in the 1300 block of Georgetown Drive, according to a news release.

A fire was burning on an outside wall behind an air conditioner. A police officer initially fought the fire with a dry-chemical extinguisher.

No one was injured.

Damage is estimated at $10,000 to the building and $1,000 to its contents. Firefighters removed siding and drywall to make sure the fire hadn't extended through the walls.

Fire officials believe the fire started in or around an electrical disconnect box for the air conditioner.
