'Offensive image' sent to Fremd students

Palatine police are investigating after an email with a "graphic and offensive image" went out to students at Fremd High School, District 211 officials say.

The inappropriate email was sent Tuesday night to a "large number of Fremd High School students." Palatine police were immediately notified, Principal Kurt Tenopir said in an email sent to parents just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A similar informational email went out to Palatine High School parents also Wednesday afternoon. School officials warned parents to caution their children about unsolicited emails from unknown sources that may contain viruses or other harmful content. Officials thanked parents for giving attention to the issue.

"Through our partnership, we can use instances such as this to reinforce civil use of electronic messages that demonstrate good judgment," Tenopir's email read.

Palatine police continue to investigate the matter. Police were not immediately available to comment. Anyone with information should call Palatine officer William Leyden at (847) 755-2660.
