Schaumburg firefighters help fight cancer

In October, the Schaumburg firefighter's third annual Pink Tie Fireman's Ball was held at the Marriott Hotel, in Schaumburg.

Thanks to the families, the firemen, neighboring fire departments, event sponsor Erie Insurance and members of the community that donated and attended the event, the Schaumburg Professional Firefighters Association raised approximately $38,000 to help fight cancer.

Schaumburg firefighters decided that the proceeds from this year's benefit would be split between the Alexian Brother's Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society Research Foundation, ensuring that all types of cancer could be fought and funded by the funds raised at the Pink Tie Fireman's Ball.

The Alexian Brother's Cancer Foundation donation will help provide wigs and prosthetics for those who cannot afford them and medications for those who need them. Funds donated to the American Cancer Society will specifically help fund research for all types of cancer.

The Schaumburg Firefighters Fighting Cancer have vowed to make this an annual event. For information, contact Jenna Werdell at pinktieball4092@gmail.com.
