Batavia police: Five from Naperville charged in car burglaries

Five people from Naperville are accused of stealing from unlocked cars throughout the Tri-Cities, Batavia police said.

The five - each charged with seven counts of felony burglary to motor vehicles - are: Christine L. Flood, 19, of the 1000 block of North Mill Street; Amanda E. Gonzalez, 20, of the 1000 block of North Mill Street; Julian P. Pecoraro, 19, of the 500 block of Cassen Road; Brennan M. Rafferty, 19, of the 700 block of Bennedetti Drive; and Austin J. Smith, 21, of the 1800 block of Hilltop Court.

They were due in bond court Saturday.

Early Friday, a Batavia resident on the 600 block of Blackhawk Drive saw two people trying to gain access to a neighbor's vehicle about 3:51 a.m. The person confronted the pair, who then ran from the area to another vehicle, police said. The resident was able to get a partial license plate number and called 9-1-1.

Police found the car as it was attempting to leave the neighborhood. An officer pulled over the car, with five people inside, on the 400 block of Main Street. Police recovered a "large quantity" of stolen items and said the suspects had been stealing from unlocked cars throughout the Tri-Cities.

Batavia police say they continue to investigative as additional car owners come forward to claim stolen property.
