U-46 spokesman takes administrative post in District 214

Patrick Mogge, the spokesman for Elgin Area Unit District 46 since 2012, is moving on to a new administrative position at Northwest Suburban High School District 214.

Mogge will start Feb. 2 as District 214's director of community engagement and outreach. He fills a vacancy left by Jessica Thunberg, who departed District 214 in October to return to her previous job in the private sector.

Mogge made $129,000 a year at U-46, but will be making $141,000 annually at District 214, said district spokeswoman Jen Delgado.

"I have enjoyed working with our teachers, staff and community organizations to strengthen our partnerships in U-46 and to share the positive stories of our students and staff," Mogge said. "While it is difficult to leave the district and my team, I know that they will continue to do great work to support the students and staff in U-46."

U-46 officials are seeking applicants to fill Mogge's job, which is posted on U-46's website.

"It came as a shock to me," U-46 CEO Tony Sanders said. "I certainly am proud of Pat for getting this opportunity. I knew eventually he would be recruited away from us."

At District 214, Mogge will lead a team managing the district's public profile, build a Foundation the supports innovation and lifelong learning and will later oversee Community Education programming, which serves more than 50,000 community members annually, according to a news release.

"We're confident Patrick's expertise in education communications and extensive experience and connections in public policy will help us enhance the dialogue on public education, build new and stronger partnerships throughout our communities and work together with our local stakeholders as we strive to deliver relevant education that prepares our students for their future," said Superintendent David Schuler.

Mogge is a graduate of Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211, Illinois State University and the University of Chicago's Harris Graduate School of Public Policy. He worked as an education policy adviser in state government and a campaign manager before starting at U-46.

"I look forward to working with the teachers and staff to help share the positive moments that occur each day within our schools," Mogge said. "We have an amazing opportunity to create new possibilities for community members to get engaged with our district and further support the tremendous work our educators and students are doing."
