Buffalo Grove Citizen's Police Academy begins Feb. 11

Anyone who lives or works in Buffalo Grove who's wondered what it's like to be a police officer can find out by joining the next class of the village's Citizen's Police Academy.

The academy is an eight-week program of "hands on" classes designed to provide an overview of the various aspects of law enforcement. The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is to help residents better understand how police work in their community.

Among the topics and activities will be tours of the 9-1-1 call center and police station, DUI enforcement, crime scene investigation, police defensive tactics, firearms safety, narcotics investigation and SWAT.

Classes meet from 7 to 10 p.m. weekly, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 11 through April 1. Class size is limited to the first 20 applicants, and participants must be at least 21 years old and live or work in Buffalo Grove.

Applications are available online at vbg.org/police or at the front desk of the police department. For more information, contact Officer Derken at (847) 459-2560.
