Lisle schools reach out to community in Vision 202

Lisle Unit District 202 is launching a program called Vision 202 with an eye toward working with the community to build a strong future for the district and its students.

The community engagement process will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, with the first of five scheduled Vision 202 sessions. The first meeting, to be held at Lisle Junior High School, 5207 Center Ave., will feature a State of the District presentation by Superintendent Keith Filipiak.

The five sessions will focus on student achievement, programs of study, district finances, district facilities and other key issues involved in maintaining a successful educational experience for District 202 students.

Here are a few questions that will be explored during the engagement program:

• What are the key factors and features of District 202 that should be sustained?

• How are District 202 students doing academically? Are students receiving educational experiences needed to be successful in the 21st century?

• Is the district providing the appropriate technology and other resources to maximize teaching and learning?

• Do District 202 facilities provide an environment for 21st-century teaching and learning and other educational experiences?

• Is District 202 managing its money wisely to provide the most efficient and effective educational experiences for students and honoring the investment of taxpayers?

Key findings and recommendations will be presented to the school board in June.

While supported by the board, Vision 202 is citizen-led and will have extensive participation by community members, parents, business owners, employees, senior citizens and alumni.

Longtime Lisle residents Susan Stears and Bill Buchelt will serve as co-chairs of Vision 202. Also serving are Vision 202 Community Facilitating Team members Steve Bauer, Terry Brennan, Kitty Murphy, Steve Pawlowicz, Meg Sima and Monica Wagoner.

School district staff and liaisons on the facilitating team are Pam Ahlmann, Amy Narot, Filipiak, Linda Kotalik, Pat Kerback and Emmett Bronson.

All District 202 residents are invited to participate in Vision 202. The success of the project relies on participation from a broad-based representation of the community.
