Buffalo Grove ranks among safest cities

Buffalo Grove has been ranked 23rd among the top 100 safest cities across the United States by the research firm Neighborhood Scout.

The ratings are for communities with populations of 25,000 or more people based on the number of property and violent crimes per year per 1,000 residents. Crime data is taken from the previous calendar year, which is the most recent national data available from the FBI.

According to Neighborhood Scout, the chances of becoming a victim of a crime in Buffalo Grove is 1 in 121, while on average across the country, the probability jumps to 1 out of every 32 people. It's the second year the village has been in the top 25.

"We are honored to receive this prestigious designation for a second year," village President Jeff Braiman said.
