Elmhurst College displaying high school art

Elmhurst College is celebrating young artists and public school art programs from across the region this month during the 16th annual High School Art Exhibition.

Hundreds of paintings, prints, sculptures, videos, computer art and works in other media will be on display during the free two-week exhibition that runs through Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center, 190 Prospect Ave.

Every January, the entire lounge from floor to ceiling is filled with artwork created by talented students from 10 high schools.

"I can well remember the significance of having my artwork exhibited when I was in high school," said Suellen Rocca, director of exhibits at Elmhurst College.

"I feel so fortunate that as exhibition director I can help to make this happen for hundreds of talented high school students. I am proud that Elmhurst College supports this very important exhibition."

The high schools represented are Addison Trail, East and West Leyden, Lyons Township, Maine West, Morton East and Morton West, Proviso West, Willowbrook and York.

During a reception on Wednesday, Jan. 14, to celebrate the artists featured in the exhibition, students will visit the college's art studios and tour its collection of Chicago imagist and abstractionist art. The college also will award ribbons and $2,000 scholarships to students from each high school.

The High School Exhibition is one of roughly a dozen shows Elmhurst College will present this academic year in three campus venues. For details, call Rocca at (630) 617-6110 or email srocca@elmhurst.edu.
