Batavia to offer indoor farmers market

Starting Saturday, Batavia shoppers will be able to get some of their favorite local foods at an indoor farmers market.

Gaetano's Batavia, a restaurant at 15 E. Wilson St., has offered to host one, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday, Jan. 10 through May 23, according to Joi Cuartero, executive director of Batavia MainStreet.

"Our (summertime) farmers market vendors have asked every year if we could do a winter market," Cuartero said in a news release. "Unfortunately, we never had an indoor location that could host several vendors at a time. Then, Gaetano and Wendy (DiBenedetto) approached us about using their space!"

There will be eight to 10 vendors. The initial vendors are:

• Burgin Farms, which sells meat and eggs;

• Anna's Cooking, baked goods;

• Bema & Pa's, olive oils and balsamic vinegars;

• Ferndell Farm, eggs;

• Katic Bread;

• Willow Creek Honey;

• Muirhead Farm, microgreens and herbs;

• Rovers K-9 Snacks; and

• Our Little Soap Shop.

This winter market joins ones in St. Charles and Geneva. The St. Charles market is from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, Third and Cedar avenues. The Geneva market is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at First Congregational Church, 327 Hamilton St.
