Pols, is this what the people really need?

The November elections have passed and already politicians are passing bills for themselves.

Earlier this year, a bill was passed allowing cars and trucks to travel at 70 mph on the interstate. Faster speed causes greater damage, more serious injuries and more fatalities - the exact reasons speed limits were lowered years ago.

Correctly believing that "speed kills," Governor Quinn vetoed it. But state legislators recently overrode the veto. Jim Oberweis, who co-sponsored this legislation, stated it would "save travelers a little time" and "cause businesses to operate more efficiently." Like the 60-plus trucks his company deploys?

Oberweis also recently complained on the radio that government shouldn't be able to control the price of milk. Government keeps the price of milk down so it's affordable for people. Politicians, what do you think people need? Are people calling you up and asking if they can drive really, really fast? Are they asking to pay more for a glass of milk? No.

What people need are good, decent jobs. They need to keep their affordable health insurance. Do you really want to take away health care from men, women and children who can now go to the doctor when sick?

Students need their loans refinanced at a low rate. Banks, investment companies and Wall Street stole billions, even receiving million dollar bonuses paid for by us taxpayers. And no one went to jail. Yet politicians rejected the bill to help students, who stole from no one.

So politicians, do the right thing. It's not hard to do the right thing. Once you know what the right thing to do is, it is hard not to do it.

Hoping and watching.
