Spellman: Hawks' Crawford, Seabrook first-time all-stars

Corey Crawford and Brent Seabrook will make their first NHL All-Star Game appearances this season.

The pair won't be the only Blackhawks in Columbus. They will be joined by teammates Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith … and Buffalo's Zemgus Girgensons as the first six players to earn spots in the game.

The final numbers were announced Saturday, and Girgensons was the top overall vote-getter with 1,574,896. Kane and Toews collected 1,232,201 and 1,217,210 votes, respectively, to earn the second and third spots overall.

Keith was fourth overall and tops among defensemen with 1,198,173. Seabrook had 1,016,992 for the second defenseman spot and sixth overall. Crawford topped all goaltenders and ranked fifth overall with 1,099,504 votes.

The remaining roster will be announced next Saturday.

Sharp replaces Versteeg:

With Kris Versteeg out of the lineup for about a month with a hand injury, Patrick Sharp skated on the second line at practice Saturday with Brad Richards and Patrick Kane.

"Obviously, he probably shoots a little more, so I'll be looking to get the puck to him in good scoring areas," Richards said of Sharp. "It wouldn't be too crazy of a change."

Added Kane: "Obviously we know he can score goals, but he also can bring some puck possession to the line and he can also get pucks back."

The loss of Versteeg cast a bit of a pall in the Hawks' locker room.

"Steeper, I don't think we really have to say … he's been playing unbelievable," Corey Crawford said. "We know what kind of skill he has. Everybody knew that in this room, and he went out there and proved it.

"It's going to be a big loss for our team. It's going to be tough, but it's something we'll have to deal with."

Lineup shuffle:

Look for Joakim Nordstrom to replace the struggling Daniel Carcillo in the lineup Sunday against Dallas.

"Definitely," Joel Quenneville said of the possibility.

Carcillo has no points in his last eight games and has seen his ice time drop lately.

"His pace hasn't been the same as it was most of the year," Quenneville said. "That consistency is something you look for."

He said it:

"Miss? We wished them Happy New Year."
