Mt. Prospect movie theater briefly evacuated after small fire

A smoldering ceiling tile caused a movie theater to be partially evacuated Wednesday afternoon in Mount Prospect, witnesses said.

Firefighters responded to the AMC Randhurst 12 in the Randhurst Shopping Center at 1:30 p.m. for something smoldering in the front vestibule, Mount Prospect Fire Shift Cmdr. Dane Phenegar said.

Inside, patrons were evacuated from some of the theaters after their movies froze on the screen.

No alarms went off in the building, witnesses said, and patrons were allowed to return to their theaters a short time later. Nobody was injured, Phenegar said.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the ceiling tile to start smoldering, he said.
