15-year-old dies in Mt. Prospect home

A sophomore at Rolling Meadows High School died over the weekend at his home in Mount Prospect, but police said foul play is not suspected.

Israel Echeverria, 15, was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Officials said an autopsy has been done, but results are pending toxicology tests, which can take four to six weeks.

According to a tribute posted on Facebook, Echeverria would have turned 16 on Christmas Eve.

"He is a sophomore at Rolling Meadows High School. We're extremely sad to hear this," said Northwest Suburban High School District 214 spokeswoman Jen Delgado. Delgado confirmed that Echeverria was a student in the district but said school records have his first name spelled differently than what appeared on the medical examiner records and his Facebook account. District 214 is on winter break through Jan. 5.

"We will have our student services staff at Rolling Meadows available to students on the first day back of school," Delgado said.

Mount Prospect police said the death does not appear to be suspicious.
